After two Left 4 Dead game discs fell prey to the infamous “cracking in the center” problem I’ve read about on many an interweb forum – which I determined was cause by the case the first copy came in, I decided I wasn’t going to shell out cash for another copy. Thus, getting my MacGyver on, I repaired the first disc to crack with strategically applied Gorilla Glue. That copy worked like a charm this evening and I enjoyed some “versus” with my brother and another friend. The other game disc was patched up with several strips of Scotch Gift Wrap Tape (the purple stuff) and I have yet to try it in the Xbox 360 again.

My Mistake

I think I’m going to skip my taxes this year. When I’m asked why I didn’t file, I just explain that the tax code is too complicated and it was an honest mistake of omission. Then, maybe I’ll run for a government office so I can become part of the elite class of citizens known as politicians who do no real work, give themselves raises whenever they feel like it, bicker like children trying to maintain or usurp their positions and power and generally do whatever the hell they want with little lasting repercussions. I say we fire them all and start fresh.

Gasp! I’m finally posting something on this brand-spanking-new online log nearly three months after “site initiation” took place. And an informative update at that. I shall endeavor to update more frequently. Really, I will.

Critical malfunction in personal transport [designate "Zanniati"] heating system detected! Exposure to sub-arctic temperatures elevated. Service request initiated. Exercise caution commuting, traveler.
*Sniff* That’s from the cold in my car. Yes, my faithful Zanni’s heating system is not working properly. Needless to say, it’s been a cold, frigid week driving to and from work, most especially for my fingers and toes - apologies again to Kevin for enduring the cold with me on the way to and from hanging out with Aaron and Drew at Friday’s Wednesday evening. Air is, in fact, blowing out of the vehicle’s vents … just not warm air. I called my “auto guy” up in Zimmerman this evening and I won’t be able to get him to look at it until New Year’s weekend, so I’m either going to have to suck up until then or find somewhere near New Brighton to get Zanni restored (and probably get ripped off in the process). We shall see.

I’ve been greatly enjoying the convenience of Netflix, having signed up for a FREE two week trial – which, incidentally, ended yesterday. Being an avid gamer and fan of the Xbox 360, I was delighted when Netflix’s instant streaming service became available on that platform. I have already chuckled and guffawed through the first two seasons of The Office (the newer, American version, not its British inspiration) and watched the cult classic The Boondock Saints - good movie, even if Willem Dafoe is really, really creepy, “There was a FIREFIGHT!”
Also in my instant streaming queue are the first two seasons of Jericho, a series about the residents of the namesake small town banding together for survival in the wake of a nuclear attack on Denver. I’ve only watched the first episode, but it’s really piqued my interest already. Looking forward to catching some more episodes soon.
Lastly in Netflix news, I also finally watched Crash, my first actual, physical DVD (Blood Diamond is next) from Netflix. Well made movie, to be sure, with some great redemption stories (and vice versa), but I guess I was expecting more, or maybe just different, with all the hype it received. Basically, what I took away from this movie was, “Yep. Everybody’s racist.” Okay, that’s me being sarcastic. What it really said was, “Everyone’s got preconceived notions about everyone else (on the basis of race in this case) and some of us learn to rise above those preconceived notions, some of us don’t, and some of us reinforce others’ preconceived notions about us. It got a three stars from me. Good thinking movie, but I wouldn’t watch it again.
That’ll do for now. Stay tuned for more, dear reader.
